The statement that the Director of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communication Commission, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde sign, he said that they have make significant progress in the NIN-SIM verification process as almost 54 Million people has obtained their NIN and it can translate to up to 190 Million mobile numbers.
This extension came after President Muhammadu Buhari asked them to extend the deadline to 6, May, 2021.
November 2020, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) make it compulsory for everybody that is using SIM cards in the country to validate their registration by linking their NIN or they will block the SIM.
Since the announcement, NCC said the number of people that are registering for NIN every month has increased significantly to 2.6 million and they have create about 3,800 centres available for enrolments and more still coming.
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC said the NIN-SIM linkage go support the federal government to check the activities of fraudsters and Internet-Jaguda people- alias cybercriminals.
Dr Isa Pantami CEO of the Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC, said they will make sure to make the process of NIN and SIM registration dey easy for subscribers.
